A day in the December life of....

Introducing Brighton by night, how I have been seeing most of it for the last month. My days have typically involve a rushed breakfast or some form of, while walking to Virgin. This 10 minutes of daylight are about all I'm seeing at the moment while working in Virgin from 10am - 6:30pm. It's been fun playing around in Virgin and I'm really surprised at how much I know about movies, music and games. And it's great to flex the nerdy brain and Google mobile search on some of the customers more obscure questions e.g. What's the movie Audrey Tautou is in where she plays a stalker? (Answer) or Other then the Bridget Jones movies and the BBC Pride and Prejudice, what movies has Colin Firth been in recently? (Appropriate answer)

Then there's all the added bonuses of working in a games department! I actually had one of the new Nintendo Wii consoles with the new Zelda that I was raving about in my last post in my hands, at home and ready to play but didn't! It was so unfair... the choice between something I've been anticipating for over 4 years or risking my continued travel due to lack of funds. Though I was able to make about £80 ($200 AU) by selling it on eBay.

Anyhow so back on topic... 10am - 6:30 at Virgin and then rushing home to get changed and dashing all prim and proper to work at Ruby Tate's from 7pm - anything up to 2am! Now add in working Christmas day, New Years Eve and New Years Day and you have a painful month without a day off yet! Not to worry now though as Ruby Tates is closed till approx. 20th Jan for refurbishments... phew... I'd forgotten what having an evening off was like!
Now this is breaking news as of today, I mentioned that Virgin have hired me on a temporary Christmas contract only which is due to end on the 7th. Well it's been talk of the store just who will get the 4 or 5 permanent positions given out to Christmas staff of over 20 people. We were all told it was being done "above board" using a scoring system to rate everyone but several of the managers have said it's still been really difficult to decide as they had a really good intake of people this Christmas. So today I get pull into the store managers office to have what was obviously *the* inevitable chat. After discussing the 'political' chit chat that happens in large corporation job I got the new that I was one of the top people on the list to be hired! It really is such an honour as there are so many good people.

And a tad more news of the day, me and John (my partner in crime in the games section at Virgin, who was also rehired) noticed on a recent *game* sale some original Xbox consoles that were apparently in stock! £45 ($112 AU) and 2 in stock... how odd for such an old console. Upon inspection aka digging in the stock room we revealed 2 XBoxes! Needless to say with the recent departure of my Nintendo Wii console this now takes pride of place in the lounge room!
There was much talk of Spain recently but with all this falling into place so well I may just end up staying in Brighton for a few more months. Defiantly feeling better then what I was over Christmas period. Anyone who knows me knows I hate the holiday season. And now for the first time left only with photos instead of memories of a family Christmas tradition of the big family lunch on Boxing Day is obviously not a great feeling.
